Back when comedy had balls: why American Pie still matters in 2025
A nostalgic review of the filthiest, funniest wedding ever put to screen.
Nudism. Band camps. Guys doing incredibly stupid stuff.
You know exactly what I’m talking about, right?
Okay, okay... if you don’t, how about this: “Stiffler.”
Yes. You’re completely right. The man, the myth, the walking disaster.
Even if it’s 20 years later... especially if it’s 20 years later... some stories deserve to be honored.
And American Pie had scenes that still echo in our minds, years after we stopped burning DVDs or sneaking them into sleepovers.
That’s why we made a t-shirt to celebrate it , but I’ll show you that at the end.
This is not your usual film review.
This is about why these movies stuck with us.
Why we still quote them.
Why out of all four films, American Pie: The Wedding is my favorite.
And why it still makes me laugh, gag, and believe it or not, feel things.
Let me situate you.
There are four main American Pie movies (and yes, a bunch of chaotic spin-offs, but we’ll get to that).
Here’s the quick rundown:
👉 American Pie (1999)
Four high school friends make a pact to lose their virginity before graduation. Cue awkward sex, a now-iconic pie scene, and the birth of Stifler’s reign of terror.
👉 American Pie 2 (2001)
The boys reunite for a summer at a beach house, trying to relive their glory days. More chaos, walkie-talkie disasters, and Jim glued to his... well, you'll see.
👉 American Pie: The Wedding (2003)
Jim and Michelle are getting married, but Stifler crashes the party literally and emotionally. Between waxing mishaps, a lost wedding ring in dog poop, and genuine heart? It’s unforgettable.
👉 American Reunion (2012)
Thirteen years later, the gang comes back to town for their high school reunion. Nostalgia hits hard, and the chemistry (and madness) is still there.
My favorite? The Wedding
Because it’s the perfect mix of filth and feeling.
The jokes land, the characters shine, and somehow, in between pube cakes and poop truffles, you end up caring deeply about them all.
Let’s rewind for a second.
We met Jim, Kevin, Finch, Oz… and of course, Stifler… as dumb high school boys trying to lose their virginity. But over four movies, something strange happened.
They grew up.
And maybe, so did we.
By the time we got to The Wedding (2003), they were still the same lovable idiots... just older, bolder, and now, preparing for one of the most chaotic weddings in cinematic history.
WARNING: Yes, he ate it. No, it wasn’t chocolate. Welcome to American Pie’s wildest moments
Let’s talk about moments, shall we?
Grooming gone wrong, cake ruined:
There’s the legendary scene where Jim, trying to groom himself for the big day, ends up waxing everything below the belt. In the process, he catapults a cloud of pubes straight out the window… and guess where it lands? Right. On the wedding cake. Bon appétit.
The truffle wasn’t chocolate, it was commitment:
But my personal favorite?
The scene where Stifler, in a heroic attempt to retrieve the lost engagement ring, eats a chocolate truffle that’s not a truffle at all , it’s a nugget of dog poop.
Why? Because the ring’s in it.
Why else? Because he’s trying to stop the bride’s mom from eating it.
That’s love. Or something like it.
Gross? Completely.
Stupid? Without question.
Unforgettable? Hell yes.
But underneath the chaos, what made American Pie: The Wedding so good wasn’t just the shock humor. It was the characters.
Jim, the eternal awkward kid, finally finds his confidence (and a loving partner in Michelle, the flute girl turned total badass).
Stifler, the human grenade, accidentally shows he might have a heart.
Even Finch and Kevin get their moments.
Each one of them felt like someone we knew.
Maybe someone we were.
So why does this movie still hold up in 2025?
Because it’s realer than it looks. Growing up is messy. Relationships are awkward. Sex is confusing. Friends are weird. And yet, through all of it ... the madness, the mistakes, we find connection. Laughter. And maybe even love.
That’s why we’re still talking about it.
That’s why we made a t-shirt that captures all the ridiculous brilliance of this iconic franchise. (Don’t worry, I’ll show you right after this.)
Something rare in a comedy...
American Pie: The Wedding isn’t just my favorite because of the gross-out gags (though they are elite).
It’s my favorite because it showed us something rare in a comedy:
That friendship lasts. That people change. That chaos can lead to meaning.
And that sometimes… a poop-filled chocolate can save a marriage.
So if it’s been a while?
Rewatch it. Relive it.
You don’t need a time machine to revisit your youth.
Just press play.
Spin-off movies:
👉 Band Camp (2005)
👉 The Naked Mile (2006)
👉 Beta House (2007)
👉 The Book of Love (2009)
👉 Girls’ Rules (2020)
P.S. You’ve made it this far , you deserve to see the t-shirt we made inspired by this legendary ride.

Man… reading this felt like sitting on the porch with old friends, just laughing about the dumb stuff we grew up watching. I swear, American Pie was a whole era. Stifler eating that chocolate? Still makes me gag and laugh at the same time. Appreciate this reminder, might have to dig out the DVDs this weekend. Greetings from Virginia.
